Our play and care facilities, alongside training for staff allow us to provide the best service for everyone.
Children’s Play Facilities
Johnson Place is fully accessible and designed to meet the needs of a range of different needs. We have a soft play room; a state of the art sensory studio with specialist equipment including fibre optics, bubble tubes and cinematic experience; a fully accessible kitchen with rise and fall hob, sink and talking microwave; an art room; a secure outside play area with wheelchair accessible roundabout and a sensory garden. We also have a specialist Acheeva bed, P-pod chairs, a Leaf-Swing chair, switch operated toys and sensory panels to support the range of needs of our children.
Our Care Facilities
At Johnson Place we pride ourselves on offering high quality care to our children and young people. We have access to a specialist nurse who is qualified to train our staff to carry out health care tasks that a child may need. In addition, all staff follow a programme of training to ensure that they are competent in meeting the needs of all the children using The Hamlet. In-house trainers ensure that basic training in moving and handling, behaviour management and other essentials is available as soon as possible for new staff.
Our care equipment includes two fully equipped care-rooms with mobile and over-head hoisting; care beds that can be moved and adapted to meet the needs of the individual; accessible toilets and shower facilities.
Our Communication Facilities
Staff are trained to recognise and use the many ways in which a child can communicate. We provide training in Signalong (sign language) and Intensive Interaction (communication for people with severe learning disabilities). On site we can provide Eye-Gaze technology, Proloquo and Picture Exchange Communication (PECS) to support communication.
