City Breaks (14 to 18 year olds)

City Breaks is a fun, social transition scheme which supports young people to move into adulthood. City Breaks runs during the school Easter and Summer holidays Monday to Friday, one Saturday per month and some evenings.
Our City Breaks Programme is designed to support our young people to prepare for their journey into adulthood.
Attendees have the opportunity to access the local community and take part in activities which boost their independence skills and confidence when out in the community.
They plan bus journeys and are encouraged to take an active part in planning the programme for that day, giving staff ideas and contributions of what they would like to do and where they would like to go.
Although based at Johnson Place, Children's Centre, the group takes advantage of our City location and are able to access many local amenities such as swimming, shopping centres and restaurants. The scheme offers the chance to shop for ingredients to prepare lunch or snacks together, as well as handling money and attending social attractions with their peers.
City Breaks’ aim is to reduce isolation and barriers to accessing the community, increase confidence when in public places and prepare for adult life.

City Breaks' is particularly supportive of those young people who may be considering accessing our Young Adult’s Services at Ella Road. Staff from both Children and Adult Services come together to plan and run the City Breaks. We often arrange trips to Ella Road to introduce the young people to this space.

Amber and Ben share why they keep coming back to The Hamlet and love attending ‘City Breaks’, our group that supports young people to move into adulthood. Read Amber and Ben's story.
