The shop, located on Bowthorpe road, Norwich, was set up earlier this year by Norwich couple Anna and David Perkins. David explained, "Our daughter Katie has a disability and we have received so much support from Norwich charities like The Hamlet, that we wanted to do something to give back. The shop seemed the perfect way for us to do it."
David went on to explain that by having a shop in Norwich they could make sure that the organisations / people Smile Shop would fundraise for would always benefit those in their local community.
The shop open in March 2020 exactly 4 days before the national Covid-19 lockdown. Tania Davies, a volunteer at the shop and well known parent at The Hamlet Children's service said, "It was not great timing for the shop to open, but we have pulled through. The shop provides a wonderful opportunity to make money for charities and individuals who are in need. Last month shop sales meant that they were able to present one family with a total of £1225, amazing!"
The shop chooses a different fundraiser every 6 weeks and we at The Hamlet are thrilled to have been chosen. Pauline, CEO at The Hamlet said, "We are so grateful to The Smile Shop for choosing to fundraise for us. I hope lots of people will pay them a visit to show their support. Thank you Smile Shop."
You can visit The Smile Shop website and Facebook page for more information on the type of things they sell. They are always keen to receive donations of toys, clothes, books and bric-a-brac. Why not donate something to them and have a browse of the shop at the same time? The Smile Shop would love to hear from new supporters, whether it be giving up some time to volunteer with them, donating items or visiting them to have a chat and shop.
