Goodbye Pauline - Hamlet CEO

Pauline says ‘I have been very privileged to lead this amazing charity over the last decade. The staff are incredible, dedicated and determined to do the very best for the children, adults, and their families whatever the obstacles are. The last 20 months have been very difficult with Covid restrictions, but we demonstrated how we always put the families first with how we came through, managing to provide a service throughout for the families most in need of support and getting our services back to ‘normal’ as soon as we could. There have been many, many memorable moments including establishing the pre-school as a specialist provider of early education for children with and without disabilities, streamlining our offer as a day service for young adults with very complex disabilities and health needs; participating in the Lord Mayors Show; installing a music room, a new training kitchen, a growing garden and accessible reception area at the adult centre at Ella Road; the list goes on! But I could not have done any of this without the support of my amazing team and the Board of Trustees, not to mention the fundraisers and trusts and foundations who continue to support us.

Just before the pandemic we worked in collaboration with an inspirational group of students from Norwich university of the Arts, Norwich Harmony Chorus, our staff, and families to produce a version of This is Me from the Greatest Showman which was a significant highlight bringing us together as a Hamlet family. A family is what we are all about and is at the heart of this organisation that was started nearly 50 years ago, by Jack and Margaret Wymer who were the inspiration behind The Hamlet.’ The video was shred over 40,00 times on social media to new audiences across the country. I will miss The Hamlet so much – it is a huge part of my life and the people I have met have made it an amazing journey.
