A Journey with The Hamlet
Ava’s family has shared how the support they have received from The Hamlet has made a meaningful difference throughout their journey.
The family first discovered The Hamlet through transitional care NICU nurses at their hospital, who recommended the charity as a source of support to help meet Ava’s needs.
“We were looking for somewhere to support the additional needs that Ava needed at the time,” they explained.
Finding Reassurance and Belonging
Before attending The Hamlet, the family were unsure whether the support available would be the right fit for Ava.
After joining their first sessions, those concerns quickly disappeared.
“Amazing. It was just what we needed. Everyone was so welcoming and supportive.”
From the very first visit, the family knew they had found a place where Ava could feel comfortable, accepted and supported.
Ongoing Support Through Every Step
Since joining The Hamlet, Ava has attended a range of sessions including NICU nurture groups, Sensory Bees and Little Bees.
These sessions have provided Ava with opportunities to explore, develop confidence and enjoy new experiences within a welcoming environment.
The family highlighted the importance of the support they have received from members of the team, including Jade and Charlie.
“They have also been a great way to meet other families. Jade has supported us with many other queries, including helping us with DLA forms.”
The family also shared how valuable the reassurance and guidance from staff has been.
“Many conversations with Jade after worrying appointments have provided reassurance.”
Growing in Confidence
Over the past two and a half years, Ava has grown in confidence within The Hamlet’s environment.
“Ava is confident in the space and has accessed more and more over time. Ava is so happy to be there and talks about it often.”
The family say The Hamlet has provided a place where Ava can feel comfortable, develop at her own pace and take part in activities that support her individual needs.
“The Hamlet has given us support and reassurance that has helped us understand and support Ava’s needs.”
A Welcoming and Inclusive Environment
When asked what stands out most about The Hamlet, the family highlighted:
“The accessibility and openness.”
They describe The Hamlet in three words:
“Supportive, warm, accepting.”
The family say the consistency and dedication of the team makes a huge difference.
“It means the world to know that Jade and the rest of the team are there when we need them. It is a real comfort.”
Encouraging Others to Reach Out
Reflecting on their experience, the family encourage other parents to take the first step and connect with The Hamlet.
“Give it a try! It’s been just what we needed.”
They also hope more people understand the wide range of support available.
“It is for children and families of all backgrounds and a range of needs.”
